The battery PE separator is a functional film mainly made of polyethylene (PE) and is one of the core components of lithium-ion batteries. Its key function is to physically isolate the positive and negative electrodes to prevent short circuits, while providing a transmission channel for lithium ions through a nanoscale microporous structure (pore size 5-50 nanometers, porosity 40%-55%, thickness 6-16μm), directly affecting the safety and performance of the battery.

PE material endows the diaphragm with flexibility and resistance to electrolyte corrosion. However, due to its relatively low melting point (approximately 120℃), thermal stability is often enhanced by compounding it with polypropylene (PP) (such as a three-layer structure of PP/PE/PP) or by coating it with ceramic, PVDF and other coatings (with a shrinkage rate of ≤3% at 120℃). It is widely used in power batteries and consumer electronics batteries. Domestic enterprises such as Enjie Co., Ltd. have achieved mass production and are developing towards ultra-thinness and composite functionalization, which is an important foundation for the iteration of lithium battery technology.
